The Roblox Community Fund is now available.
My co-founder Erik Cassel and I had a long history of developing educational software together at our previous company, Knowledge Revolution, before we started Roblox. We knew from our experience with Interactive Physics that students learn best when they are given the opportunity to deepen their knowledge through hands-on experiences, problem solving, and collaboration with others. This concept is based on a theory known as "constructionism," which was first defined by MIT scholar Seymour Papert and is still supported by us today.
Roblox Education's vision is to empower students and educators to explore online learning through the integration of Roblox Studio in STEM curricula and immersive educational experiences on our platform. Instead of reading about ancient Rome, students will be able to visit it and tour the Colosseum together. Education is still ingrained in our DNA, which is why we continue to provide free software and curriculum to teach valuable STEM skills like coding and 3D design. We are pleased to introduce the Roblox Community Fund to support our educational efforts (RCF).
The RCF is intended to help kickstart the next chapter of Roblox's education expansion and to support other innovative impact initiatives. The RCF will provide grants to educational organizations that develop curriculum and educational experiences that leverage our platform in immersive and compelling ways through the initial $10 million fund.
Rebecca Kantar, Roblox's Head of Education, will now also be the Director of the Roblox Community Fund. We believe Rebecca is the ideal leader to help bring meaningful, high-quality teaching and learning experiences to Roblox, given her passion for education, as well as her background as an entrepreneur, non-profit leader, and expert in game-based and simulation-based educational assessment.
